Your Internet May Pause During a Phone Call When Using Two eSIMs Abroad

Updated this week

If you're using both a Telgea Local eSIM and a Data eSIM while abroad, you may occasionally notice your mobile internet pauses during a phone call. This only happens under very specific conditions, and we’re working on a solution to prevent it entirely.

When This Issue Should Not Occur

For most Telgea users, you will not experience any issues using voice and data at the same time.

The only time you might notice a temporary internet interruption is:

  • You are abroad

  • You are using two eSIMs: one for voice (Telgea local number) and one for data.

  • Your phone does not support full dual eSIM functionality

If you're not in this scenario, your data and voice should work normally, even with two eSIMs.

Experiencing This At Home? Here's What To Check

If you're in your home country and still notice your internet dropping during calls, it’s likely due to your travel data eSIM being set as your default for mobile data.

To fix this:

  1. Open your phone’s SIM settings

  2. Set your Telgea "Business" line (your local number) as the default for mobile data

  3. Disable mobile data on the data eSIM labeled "Travel"

This ensures your device uses your local Telgea connection for both voice and data, preventing any interruptions during calls.

Why Does It Happen?

This comes down to how your phone manages multiple eSIMs. There are two common types of dual-SIM behavior:

1. Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) – Most Devices

  • Only one SIM (voice or data) can be active at a time.

  • So if you’re on a call, your data may pause.

  • Common on most Android phones and older iPhones.

2. Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) – Fewer Devices

  • Both SIMs can be used at the same time (call + data).

  • Available on newer models like:

    • iPhone 14 and newer

    • Google Pixel 7 and newer

    • Samsung Galaxy S25

If your phone supports DSDA, you should not experience this issue. However functionality may depend on your device being carrier unlocked, running iOS 15 or later, and using a compatible network.

We're Working on a Seamless Fix

We know this situation isn’t ideal, and we’re actively working on a single eSIM solution that will handle both voice and data — no device limitations, no interruptions.

You’ll hear from us when this update is ready.
